Various civil society organisations of Manipur on Monday began closing down central government institutions in protest against the ongoing crisis that has plagued the state for over 18 months.
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) spokesperson K Athouba, while talking to the media, said that since the reports came in about the killing of minor children and women, the people of Manipur now feel that the government has failed to protect our lives and properties.
As people are discontent with the government, they are coming out in the streets even using violent means. So, COCOMI decided to take up the act of closing down government institutions to put pressure on them, Athouba said.
ECI office situated at Lamphel, Economic and Statistics and IBSD office complexes were closed by protestors.
Mentioned may be made that curfew is in effect, the internet has been suspended and protests are going on in several places like Ema Keithel among others.
