Coordinating Committee On Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), Coordinator Th Somorendro on Friday said the failure to defend or stop the attack by Kuki militants has clearly confirmed the suspicion that some Central leaders are directly involved in ‘narco business’.
He made the statement at Moirang while announcing an indefinite ‘Public Emergency’ across the state with immediate effect.
In a fresh attack, Kuki militants fired a long range improvised rocket, killing a man and injuring at least six individuals at Moirang Mairenbam, Sendra Road, Bishnupur district at around 3.30 pm on Friday.
He said that no individuals are safe after the incident, the best precautionary measures are to remain indoors, as no central forces are able to defend or stop the attacks by Kuki militants.
Kuki militant’s attack on Meitei villages has been escalating since September 1 after the first ‘drone bombing’ incident in which one woman at Koutruck, Imphal West district was killed. In another drone aerial bombing attack, three civilians were injured and 4 assault rifles were snatched from an IRB bunker at Sinam.
He added that the Kuki militants have fired improvised locally-made missiles with long-range capabilities.
“We do not trust central forces, as it is becoming clear that they may be supporting Kuki militants. There is even a suspicion that the Central leaders are involved in narco-business with Kuki narco-terrorists,” Somorendro added.
He said that if the Manipur government cannot control the situation, all legislators should resign and leave the matter to the public.
During the public emergency school, colleges and other institutions including the government should remain closed. The public emergency will remain in effect until the government takes concrete steps to restore peace, he added.
Earlier, people in Imphal valley including students held a human chain rally demanding the withdrawal of central forces, as they have been unable to protect civilians from Kuki militant attacks.
Human chains were formed in several areas in Thoubal and Kakching district by locals including students. Meanwhile, people in Churachandpur declared a town-wide shutdown.
Meanwhile, Tera Sapam Leirak Chaokhat Thourang Lup secretary Thasana condemned the drone bombing attacks perpetrated by Chin Kuki Narco-Terrorists targeting Meitei villages since September 1.
She characterised such attacks as tactics typically employed in warfare between nations.
Thasana made this statement during a Meira rally protest, condemning the drone attacks by Chin Narco-Terrorists on September 1.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, Thasana denounced the recent attacks labelled as acts of terrorism. She called on the authorities to arrest the perpetrators and take legal action against them.
Citing the recent rocket bomb attack in Moirang, she criticised the government’s failure and suggested that if the authorities cannot respond effectively, they should allow the public to defend themselves
