Face-off occurred between security forces and students supported by various agitators, as the protesting students, who had stayed a night at Ima Keithel, came out to the streets in Imphal, Manipur to protest following the end of their 24 hour ultimatum.
As the 24-hour deadline set by protesting students to meet their demands expired on Tuesday afternoon, hundreds of demonstrators resumed their protests on the streets of Imphal, amid the curfew imposed since 11 hour of Tuesday morning.
The students, who had spent one night at the Ima Keithel, returned to the streets along with the vendors of Ima Keithel, expressing their outrage over the unmet demands concerning the security situation in Manipur.

To disperse the protestors the security forces resorted to firing of teargas shells while in return, the protestors retaliated with stones and other objects. During the confrontation, as many as 80 individuals sustained injuries and were admitted to nearby hospitals, mostly at RIMS.
In a turn of events, a rumor (voice note) stating that a student succumbed to injuries during the confrontation was spread on social media. However, it was found that it was just a rumour.
On the other hand, in the midst of the stand off between the protestors and the security forces, few of the representatives of the students were permitted to meet the governor.
As per sources, the governor has, in principle, assured to fulfill their demands.

It is noteworthy that the protesting students who had held the night at Ima Keithel, had met the governor the previous day and had submitted a charter of demands which were reportedly assured by the governor to turn it into action within 24 hours.
The demands which include demanding that the control of the Unified Command authority be transferred to Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The demands also included the removal of the DGP and the security advisor, the withdrawal of CAPF, a final stand announcement from the 50 legislators or their resignation, an end to what they call a central proxy war against the Meetei community, or allowing Manipur to decide its own fate.
