Manipur CPI submits 10-point memorandum to Amit Shah

The CPI-MSC demanded the government to convene meetings with political parties, civil societies and arrange a proper forum for holding dialogue.

The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) submitted a 10-point memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his ongoing visit to Manipur on Tuesday, demanding restoration of peace in the violence-hit state.

The memorandum includes demand for security arrangements on National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam), to enhance adequate security measures at Kangpokpi, Moreh, Churachandpur, Kotlen and peripheral areas in the valley region, to withdraw SoO Agreement with Kuki militants, a release stated.

The CPI-MSC also mentioned its opposition to the demand for separate administration and alleged that the state government failed to perform its responsibility to restore peace in the state.

The party also demanded the government to convene meetings with political parties, civil societies and arrange a proper forum for holding dialogue and enabling exchange of views among CSOs of both hill and valley regions, it mentioned

Demands to immediately arrange rehabilitation and construction of houses of the affected victims, to initiate a judicial enquiry headed by a Supreme Court judge, to provide sanction to ensure enough economic package for all the victims and to initiate necessary actions for tracing whereabouts of the missing persons are also included in the memorandum, it added.

Meanwhile, in a press meet held at the CPI office at Irabot Bhavan in Imphal, CPI-MSC reaffirmed its stance regarding the prevailing crisis in the state, another release stated.

MSC/CPI assistant secretary M Joykumar Luwang urged the Union home minister to take concrete measures against the SoO Kuki militants. It also condemned the reported inactivity of the central security forces on the onslaughts of the SoO Kuki militants and appealed to the government to take immediate actions to restore normalcy for the displaced victims of the crisis. 

The meeting was attended by state secretary L Thoiren, Central control commission member M Nara, former state secretary L Sotinkumar along with assistant secretaries M Joykumar and N Singhajit, it added.
