The Manipur CPI on Monday staged a sit-in protest against the Union Budget 2023-24 at Irabot Bhawan in Imphal, terming it “anti-people” and “budget of corporate”. It also demanded a probe into the Adani Group dealings, taking note of the controversial Hindenburg Research Project.

According to party leader L Sotinkumar, the budget is not in favour of the commoner but a budget beneficial only to the rich and the corporate houses.

He said, by introducing such a budget, the Narendra Modi-led government had crushed the livelihood conditions of the poor and the middle classes by imposing unprecedented burdens. He said the government has been promoting corporate companies like Adani, leading to widening of economic inequalities among the commoners to levels never seen before, he added.

Sontin announced that the protest will continue by ways of organising conventions, handing leaflets to the public and others.
