Manipur COVID-19 tally rises to 4,876; 111 more test positive

Of the new positive cases, 55 persons - 31 males and 24 females, are from the general population and 56 are Central Armed Police (CAPF) personnel.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur on Wednesday rose to 4,876, including 1,973 active cases and 18 deaths, official sources said.

In the past 24 hours, 111 more COVID-19 cases were reported in the state. Of the new positive cases, 55 persons - 31 males and 24 females, are from the general population and 56 are Central Armed Police (CAPF) personnel, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

The new cases included 26 from Imphal West, 18 from Imphal East, five from Churachandpur, two from Kakching, and one each from Bishnupur, Thoubal, Chandel and Pherzawl, the release stated.

Among the general positive cases, seven persons are returnees from other states while the rest  48 are locals without significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it added.

A total of 96 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. The cumulative number of discharged cases in the state is 2,885. The recovery rate is 59.16 per cent, the release further stated.

Meanwhile, MLA Md Fazur Rahim, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus after his return from Delhi on August 10, has recovered from the infection, the state health departed stated. Other asymptomatic or mild symptomatic persons willing to undergo home isolation are encouraged to do so after consultation with the respective Chief Medical Officers, the state health department added.
