Tensions escalated when Kakching police allegedly disrupted a public meeting at Kakching Lamkhai in presence of social activist Ashang Kashar and Imagi Meira Convenor RK Sujata in Kakching district on Friday.
As per sources, the public meeting was convened in connection with the ongoing Manipur crisis. The police reportedly intervened midway through Sujata’s speech following Ashang Kasar conclusion of his speech.
In response, irate individuals started shouting slogans such as, ‘we don’t want to live as slaves’, ‘safeguard territorial integrity’ and ‘long live Manipur’ among others.
Meanwhile, Ashang Kasar highlighted the dire conditions enduring by the people of Manipur due to the ongoing crisis that erupted on May 3, last year.
Despite repeated appeals to the state government, they have remained silent spectators. He also urged the CSOs to convene meetings to formulate a concrete resolution to submit to the state government.
