Tamenglong Superintendent of Police Lanmiyo Luikham said that keeping a house maid or a babysitter who is below 18 years of age is an offense; they must be above 18.
He was speaking at a consultative workshop of law enforcement agencies, service providers and NGOs to effectively address child safety and human trafficking in Shekinuh Inn Tamenglong.
The workshop was organised by Tamenglong district police with Project Mukti, an NGO based in Ukhrul district.
Further, SP Tamenglong stated that child safety can be broadly discussed in two ways – inside the family and outside the house.
“Human trafficking is also common in this modern era. Human trafficking has two perspectives, either for slavery or sexual labour,” he said.
The solution can be provided through awareness programmes and sharing one another about it. Society needs to stay proactive and need to communicate with law enforcement like police, he said.
Additional SP Josiah Pamei, Indigenous Women and child foundation director Kinderson Pamei, Tamenglong CWC member Zeinguangliu Panmei and Tamenglong OSC counselor Chingkhiujikliu Kahmei attended as panelists.
