Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president K Meghachandra on Monday informed that the list of Congress candidates for the ensuing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election will be released very soon.
During a press conference held at the Congress Bhawan in Imphal, Meghachandra said that list of Congress candidates for the first phase of the election is almost finalised. It will be sent to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) within the next few days and then it will be declared shortly, the president added.
He said that MPCC is also very concerned about fixing the first phase of polling date on Sunday i.e. February 27. The Congress feels that it will cause inconveniences for Christian community in casting vote as it is one of the important days for their religion. In view of it, the committee will request the Election Commission of India to reschedule the polling date, Meghachandra added.
MPCC vice president Kh Ratankumar Singh clarified about reports of him joining other political parties stating that he has been taking charges for various section of MPCC apart from VP, namely, chairman of research department, chairman of media committee, chairman of COVID-19 committee.
Inability to hold all the posts with the approaching of the election, application was submitted seeking to relief him from all the post. But this does not mean he is resigning from the membership of the Congress party, he clarified.
Not only this, various grievances that came up due to differences within party also made him think about resigning from the said post. However, all those misunderstandings have been settled after proper communication with senior leaders of the Congress party, he added while affirming that he will remain as a Congress member.
