The Khwairamband Ema Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee has demanded an apology from one social media handler Athouba Mangang and the Congress over allegations that the student agitation took place in monetary exchange with the protestors.
During a press meet at the Manipur Press Club on Tuesday, Khwairamband Ema Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee countered an accusation levelled by one Athouba Mangang on social media over monetary involvement in students’ agitation.
Convenor L Ibeyaima of Khwairamband Ema Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee rejected charges made by Athouba Mangang, saying “The monetary exchange allegations are baseless, such allegations need to be cleared up to avoid extreme consequences”.
“We urge the Congress to clear the allegations related to the recent student agitation. The mothers, who have been working for our community without rest, cannot be allowed to be ridiculed by such claims”, said Ibeyaima.
Another mother, Laishram Mema, interacting with the mediapersons highlighted that the recent student uprising was genuine in nature.
“The demand to hand over the Unified Command to the Chief Minister was driven by the students’ concerns and was not influenced by any external factors,” she said. Deep concern was expressed by Mema over the branding of emas on social media by Athouba Mangang, which she termed unfortunate.
“These allegations must be proved by necessary evidence regarding the amount involved and the location of the exchange. If credible evidence is presented, we are prepared to accept any punishment deemed appropriate by the public”, Memma said.
Memma affirmed that no monetary transactions with political parties have occurred and vowed to report the matter to cyber crime authorities.
She emphasized that the ema have not received any financial incentives from political entities and demanded an apology from those making false accusations.
