Speculation is rife in Imphal following a private meeting between Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya that lasted over 30 minutes on Saturday night at the Raj Bhawan in Imphal.

This meeting came shortly after legislators gathered at the chief minister’s bungalow, adding to the intrigue surrounding the political landscape of Manipur.

Media have been unable to ascertain the precise reason behind the closed-door discussion, although sources hint that the chief minister may have conveyed certain demands to the central government during this meeting.
Sources said, the Chief Minister convened a meeting of all ruling MLAs and ministers in his sectretariat in which there were many notable absentees.

As the Chief Minister went to Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor, some of the loyal ministers and MLAs stayed back in the bunglow to wait for any developments.

It may be mentioned here that, the chief secretary who was on leave due to a illness in the family was called back urgently to cancel his leave and join his duty which led to further speculations.

The conjecture around the chief minister’s potential resignation gained traction after the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) declared a “public emergency” on Friday.

This declaration followed recent attacks by Kuki militants using drone bombings and short-range missiles in the valley districts, resulting in casualties among both civilians and state forces.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister N Biren Singh had previously attempted to resign in June 20 last year.
