Manipur: Cleanliness drive held across Thoubal district

The event was organised ahead of the 128th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, which is scheduled to take place at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex on Monday.

Volunteers of Social and Cultural Development Centre (SOCDEC), along with victims of the ongoing crisis sheltering at SOCDEC Wangjing and Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex Relief Camps, organised a one-day cleanliness drive in Wangjing on Sunday.

The event was organised ahead of the 128th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, which is scheduled to take place at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex on Monday.

SOCDEC president Rojen Thongam emphasised the significance of the cleanliness drive in conjunction with the anniversary celebration, highlighting the ideology of Jananeta Irabot, who advocated for unity among communities and promoted a clean, hygienic society.

Similarly, Tourangbam Leikai Youth Club (TLYC) from Heirok Part (III) also organised a cleanliness drive to honor Hijam Irabot’s 128th birthday, focusing on cleaning the garbage along the banks of the Heirok River.

Members of TLYC, President Ningthoujam Brojen, Secretary Thokchom Rajesh, Joint Secretary Saikhom Jagatchandra, and Finance Secretary Laishram Robin, participated alongside local women and Meira Paibis.

In addition, a one-day cleanliness drive and tree plantation programme was held on Sunday at Joint Coordination Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity (JCCWB) in Manipur and the Manipur Zoological Garden in Iroisemba, as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 and Wildlife Week 2024.

Members of Unique Wildlife Protection Committee (UWLPC), Tree Planters Organisation for a Sustainable Environment Heirok, Wildlife Conservation Committee (WCC) Manipur, and local environmentalists, attended the programme.

JCCWB co-convenor Sanaton said that saplings were planted around the Zoological Garden, and four parrots and nine pigeons were also released.

Additionally, All Sora Clubs Coordinating Committee organised a similar drive at Sora Keithel and Pukhri Achouba, as part of Swachhata Hi Seva.

ASCCOC president, Julphikar Alam urged the community to maintain cleanliness and hygiene to prevent any disease.
