The civil society body, Peace and Reformation Committee Manipur (PRCM) was officially dissolved on Saturday. The body was formed when Manipur conflict broke out in May, 2023.
Speaking to the media at PRCM office in Imphal, PRCM advisor cum president in-charge Thokchom Basanta stated that the body would stop all its operations and activities under the PRCM banner.
“Several civil societies mushroomed amid the conflict which adversely led to people losing faith in civil bodies. Several bodies exist only in name and had not dispensed any work after they were founded,” he said.
He stated that PRCM was one such civil body which had failed to convene a joint meeting with all its executive members under one roof.
He alleged that executive members of the body were indulging in their own selfish agendas using PRCM’s banner.
“We called them to talk about the matter but instead some armed groups were getting involved in the matter without verifying any information,” he said.
He also alleged that PRCM was a district level body and some vested individuals had been trying to pass it as a state level body.
As such, he appealed to all involved in the matter to ascertain the facts before taking any actions and not buy into the propaganda of vested individuals.
