Manipur Chief Minister N Biren tests positive for COVID-19

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren said in a tweet that he tested positive for COVID-19, but he is fine.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren on Sunday said in a social media post that he tested positive for Coronavirus infection. He appealed to all those who were in close contact with him in the past few days to get themselves tested for COVID-19.

"Friends, I have tested COVID positive today after having some symptoms. All that have been in close proximity to me in the last few days are requested to get themselves tested. I am fine at the moment," the chief minister tweeted.

In the past few days, Biren was engaged in several events and functions.

On November 13, the Thadou Students Association leaders had called on the chief minister at his residence to congratulate him on the by-election victory of his party, BJP, while on November 12, BJP MLAs took the oath of office.

"Thadou Students' Association (TSA) leaders called on me at my residence at Luwangsangbam to congratulate on the huge mandate of the people and thumping victory at the recent by-election. I urge the student group to assist the Government and help in eradicating the drugs menace," the chief minister tweeted.

On November 12, the chief minister launched the oil palm project in Manipur, following the call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India self-sufficient in edible oil. The same day, Gyanendro Ningombam, the newly elected President of the Hockey India called on the chief minister with a memento on behalf of the team.

On November 10, the chief minister had convened a cabinet meeting at the Cabinet Hall of Chief Minister's Secretariat and discussed on various issues, including ADCs elections, the appointment of chairman, and members of MPSC. The same day, he had handed over cash incentive of Rs.50 lakh each to the local football clubs of the state which qualified for I-League - NerocaFC and TRAUFC.
