Miscreants detonated a powerful IED at Telipati, under Porompat Police Station, Imphal East district at around 3.35 am on Wednesday. No casualties were reported in the blast.

The explosion took place at an area owned by one Ramnath Sahu, 75, son of (L) Vishwanath Sahu, a resident of Telipati. A workshop that repairs stone crusher machines is located close to the gate which opens to his compound.

The workshop is owned by one Dasarath Sahu, 66, son of (L) Ganga Ram of Telipati. A godown for storing potatoes and onions is located at some distance away from the workshop.

Adjacent to the main road which passes before the compound, a kutcha house with people staying on rent is also located. As for the footage found from the CCTV camera installed at a pillar near the gate, an unknown person was seen coming from Khurai road in an Activa scooter. He wore a white coloured, hooded sweatshirt.

After driving towards Minuthong side, he returned back at the spot where the explosion would take place. After stopping, he took out a package from underneath the seat of his scooter and was seen coming towards the gate to plant the bomb.

The blast ripped open a section of the gate on its base and dug the ground at random spots. Glasses of vehicles parked inside the compound were shattered.

As the bomb experts of Manipur Police, the explosion was caused by a powerful IED. If there was no wall next to the pillar where the CCTV camera was mounted, there could have been many casualties, they expressed.

Workshop owner, Dasarath Sahu has expressed that he has not received any monetary demands from any individual or groups.  A case has been registered at the Porompat Police Station in connection with the blast.
