A miscreant exploded an IED in front of a spare parts shop at Nagamapal Lamabam Leikai under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West at around 3.12 am on Thursday. There were no casualties in the blast.
An identified man wearing a mask was seen walking towards the shop called Sachita Car House from the northern side as per a CCTV footage. After he left a package below the shutter of the shop, smoke was seen coming out of it. It exploded with a deafening noise within eight seconds.
Owner of Sachita Car House, Prakash Chetri ,46, son of RB Chetri from Mantripukhri said that he received no monetary demands from any underground militant groups. He also had no enmities with any groups, he added.
Although there were no casualties, a car (FORD) MN01X-2392 that was parked right in front of the shop received damages to its front glass and body. The car is owned by one Ahanthem Gunindro ,52, of Nagamapal Lamabam Leikai.
In connection with the case, Imphal Police Station has registered a case. A team of Mobile Forensic Unit DFS, Manipur also arrived at the spot to conduct inspection. Splinters from the remains of the blast were also collected.
