The Kuki Chief Association (KCA), Churachandpur on Friday alleged Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) led by its state president Barish Sharma of showing “senseless display of power under the guise of tree plantation drive and forcefully trespassing Thangting range" on May 14.
In a statement issued by its secretary, information and publicity Ngulkhomang Haokip, KCA Churachandpur strongly condemned BJYM for the act and stated that they were heavily armed and also threatened the local villagers.
The association questioned “why such acts of goondaism and threats were meted out by the youth wing of one of the largest political parties, the BJP.” The Kukis have honestly supported and felt a part of BJP with high hopes in the recent election in Manipur for equitable development in the most neglected hill districts of the state, KCA stated.
The conduct of the Yuva Morcha has created communal tension and hatred and disturbing the prevailing peace and tranquillity in the area, it stated.
The association appealed to all individuals and organisations to shun violence and work collectively for the upliftment of the state.
The KCA would like to appeal to all that such activities should be avoided in future and the perpetrators of such heinous and anti-social elements be booked as per law of the land at the earliest, it added.
