Manipur BJP spokesperson Ch Ajang Khongsai on Thursday declared his candidacy in the upcoming 2022 election from Saikul assembly constituency at Lhungjang village.

The 59-year-old who was born and brought up in Saikul has high expectations of getting the BJP ticket to contest the election. He conveyed to the people that he will not let his 'Saikul Semgatsi' mission go in vain if elected.

The candidacy declaration of Ch Ajang Khongsai and the blessing ceremony was organised by Khongsai Inpi general headquarters at Lhungjang village, the permanent residential village of the intending candidate.

The Khongsai community under the aegis of Khongsai Inpi general headquarters led by the Khongsai's elders and leaders prayed for Ch Ajang Khongsai and blessed him for his battle in the upcoming election.

The former National People's Party (NPP) Manipur working president and the current BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson said that everyone in Saikul are all aware that the past elections in Saikul are not 'Election' but 'Selection' through intimidation and money power. None of the elected MLAs from the assembly constituency till date were proper residents of the assembly constituency, he further said, alleging that they came from other assembly segments and became elected representatives of the people.

If people truly want to experience the true changes and development of Saikul, it is time for them to choose the right person. He also said that the people of the Saikul assembly constituency must now look for an educated and committed person to be the member of Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2022 as their representative.

“Choosing the right person at the right time is most important for the people of Saikul as we are facing delimitation in 2026 to adjust boundaries of the existing Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly seats in the state,” he said.

Saikul assembly constituency has around 27,495 eligible voters as per the latest electoral roll 2021. The total voters can be broadly divided into four communities, namely Kuki, Nepali, Meitei and Naga.
