A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Manipur police arrested a senior manager and three staff of the Bank of Baroda, Manipur University branch over alleged missing gold worth around Rs 4 crore.
The police picked up the senior bank manager, Ganga Ningombam, and three staff members namely Khaidem Jackychand (38), Gary Nongmaithem (21), and Akoijam Renash (20).
They were produced before the duty magistrate on September 20 who remanded them in police custody for five days.
Police have taken up the case following a complaint filed by Ganga Ningomba, who was the senior manager of the bank.
In her complaint lodged at the Singjamei police station on September 17, Ganga stated that the lock of the case vault of a strong room of the bank was found broken.
When the cashier of the bank opened the same for normal duty at about 10 am on September 17 some gold packets were found missing.
Upon checking footage of the CCTV monitor installed inside the bank, there was the presence of two persons inside the chamber of the branch manager at around 1.41 pm on September 12, 2024.
In the preliminary investigation, it was established that the footage couldn’t be further examined as all the CCTV cameras were found in dark mode.
Since then, the SIT has been constituted to investigate the case.
After registering a case under different sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and making a spot inquiry of the bank, said the official.
