A newly created Bamboo Crushing Unit at Ngairengbam Mamang Ching, Imphal East, Manipur was inaugurated on Thursday with collaborated measures by North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council under the North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India with the Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur.
Adviser (Horticulture), North Eastern Council secretariat Mangsatabam Iboyaima Meitei laid the foundation stone for Bamboo Crushing Unit in presence of MD of NECBDC MC Omi Ningshen, College of Food Technology, dean professor Ng Iboyaima, CSIR-NEIST, chief scientist Huidrom Birkumar, AIMS president Mayanglambam Khelendro and director, AIMS Atom Sunil, stated a release.
This innovative project, Bamboo Powder as an Integrated Farming of Livestock, Crop, and Fish in North East India is first time in India and the project uses bamboo powder as a sustainable feed supplement for livestock, natural fertiliser for crops, and ammonia absorbent for fish ponds, it stated.
It is expected that the agricultural productivity will improve and cost reduction will happen while it will promote healthy farming in the region, it mentioned.
The inauguration of the Bamboo Crushing Unit marks an important landmark in the path of agricultural innovation for Northeast India, it added.
Mangsatabam Iboyaima Meitei stated that by utilising bamboo and other local resources, an integrated model of farming was being introduced, which could significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of rural communities, it added.
MC Omi Ningshen maintained that the project can generate many opportunities for the local communities and help promote the region as a whole for a more prosperous and sustainable future, it stated.
