Manipur Assembly passes Rs 4258.53 crore for seven different demands, five government bills introduced

During the ongoing third session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, leader of the House, N Biren Singh, MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand Singh and Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh moved five different government bills.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who is also finance minister of the state, on Saturday presented the Demands for Grants, 2023-24 for seven different departments, amounting to a total sum of Rs 4258,53,49,000 and the House passed the demands unanimously after deliberate discussion.

The demands included Rs 2432,27,41,000 for Police; Rs 1652,30,27,000 for Public Works Department; Rs 7,62,00,000 for Vigilance and Anti-Corruption department; Rs 32,21,69,000 for Fire Protection and Control; Rs 42,19,73,000 for Jail; Rs 58,51,89,000 for Home Guards and Rs 33,40,50,000 for Economics and Statistics.

Among the seven demands moved on the floor of the House by the finance minister, three opposition MLAs, including K Ranjit Singh, Th Lokeshwar Singh and Surjakumar Okram raised motion for disapproval of policy cut on three different demands that included Police, Public Works Department and Fire Protection and Control.

After the concerned ministers gave clarification on the policy cut motions raised by the opposition, the House unanimously passed the seven demands.

While the Manipur Properties and Open Places (Prevention of Defacement and Disfigurement) Bill, 2023 (Bill no. 1 of 2023); the Kaina Temple Board Bill, 2023 (Bill No.4 of 2023); and the Manipur Value Added Tax (Third Amendment) Bill, 2023 (Bill No. 5 of 2023) were moved by the leader of the House to be introduced in the House, ‘The Dhanamanjuri University (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (Bill No. 6 of 2023)” was moved by Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh.

Later, MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand Singh moved the Manipur Town and Country Planning (Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2023 (Bill No. 7 of 2023).
