Manipur Assembly passes Rs 4051.67 crore as grants

The Manipur Legislative Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a sum of Rs 4051,67,79,000 as grants for eight different demands moved on the Assembly floor by state finance minister in-charge N Biren Singh.

The Manipur Legislative Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a sum of Rs 4051,67,79,000 as grants for eight different demands moved on the Assembly floor by state finance minister in-charge N Biren Singh.

The eight different demands included police with a sum of Rs 3112,68,23,000; vigilance and anti-corruption department with a sum of Rs 6,47,01,000; fire protection and control with a sum of Rs 58,41,63,000; jails with a sum of Rs 4483,29,000; home guards with a sum of Rs 57,56,19,000; rehabilitation with a sum of Rs 13,85,20,000; minor irrigation with sum of Rs 305,72,84,000 and relief and disaster management with a sum of Rs 452,13,40,000.

Among the eight different demands all the five Congress MLAs of the Opposition bench raised a policy cut motion on the demand of Police with a sum of Rs 3112,68,23,000. The five opposition MLAs raised policy cut motions on different accounts including inability to resolve the ongoing crisis, inability to prevent influx of illegal immigrants, inability to stop poppy plantation, failure to protect the lives and properties of people, inability to maintain law and order and others.

Moreover, opposition MLA, Th Lokeshwar Singh also raised another policy cut motion on relief and disaster management with a sum of Rs 452,13,40,000.

The MLA raised the policy cut motion on account of irregularities in selection of beneficiaries for relief assistance of the recent cyclone and flood.

After getting clarified by the concerned on the floor of the House, the demands of the policy cut motions were withdrawn by the respective opposition MLAs and were passed unanimously.
