Kuki militants reportedly fired around three bombs from S Nabin hill towards Moirang Oksongbung under Moirang Police station in Bishnupur district, Manipur on late night of Saturday.
According to police, the bombs fired from S Nabin village around 11.50 pm failed to reach their intended target.
Following the incident, a team of 5 Sikh Regiment rushed to the scene and was attacked by Kuki militants.
The security forces also retaliated to the attack and exchanged heavy gun battles that lasted about 30 minutes.
The Kuki militants fled the area taking the advantage of darkness after the Army dominated the area. Later the 5 Sikh Regiment led by a major conducted a search operation at Bunglon and Nabin. The team also demolished eight bunkers belonging to the Kuki militants.
Meanwhile ahead of the August 15 Independence Day, a combined team of Imphal West Commando and Border Security Force conducted a combing operation under the initiative of District Police Imphal West at Koutruk Ching leikai under Lamsang police station on Sunday.
According to police, the operation was conducted under the supervision of SP Imphal West Ksh Shivakanta from 9 am to 11 am.
During the operation, the team verified families of 30 houses. However, there were no reports of any arrests or untoward incidents.
