Manipur: Arms, ammunition seized in Imphal East

Security forces seized several arms and ammunition during search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts of Manipur on Saturday.

A statement from the Manipur Police Control Room said that security forces recovered one Improvised Gun (local name Pompi), one SBBL, one Muzzle loaded Rifle, one .22 Pistol along with magazine, three country made Pistol along with three magazines, one local made single barrel, one Blank cartridge, two Mini flare single cartridge (red), six tube launchers, two Arming Rings, one HE Grenade without detonator, one 2” Motor Shell, one Old Bombshell, one Walkie Talkie (BAOFENG) along Charger from Kongba Maru Hill Range, Imphal East district.

It also stated that a committee christened as ‘Jiribam Reconciliation Forum’ was set up on Friday under the initiative of SP Jiribam, with members from the neutral communities of Jiribam that is Bengali Hindu, Bengali Muslim, Bishnupriya, Meetei Pangal and Rongmei. The committee will act as mediator and aid the District Administration in the current situation, it stated.

The statement further mentioned that the situation in the state was under control. It stated that movement of 230 and 333 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

It added that a total of 128 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 66 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialing rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
