In view of the current situation in violence-hit Bangladesh, a red alert has been sounded while the district magistrates of Jiribam and Pherzwal in Manipur have imposed night curfew to prevent any illegal movement of people.
A Home department directive had cited the likelihood of illegal migrants from Bangladesh into the state of Manipur.
Prohibitory orders under sub-section 1 of Section 163 of BNSS, 2023 has been issued by the respective district magistrates.
District Magistrate, Jiribam District Krishna Kumar on Tuesday issued an order, imposing night curfew in Jiribam District, Manipur under sub-section 1of Section 163 of BNSS, 2023.
The curfew is imposed regarding the likelihood of influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh into the state of Manipur and as per report laid by Superintendent of Police, Jiribam.
There is an apprehension of widespread disturbance to peace and public tranquility or a riot or any affray in the area and grave danger to human lives and properties because of the unlawful activities of some anti-social elements for furtherance of their evil designs, it stated.
The order imposed prohibition on assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and the movement of any person outside their respective residences.
It also prohibited carrying of firearms, swords, sticks, stone or other lethal weapons, sharp edged articles, objects of any description which can be used as offensive weapons.
This order shall not apply to the Government agencies/functionaries and security forces involved in the enforcement of law and order and other essential services, it mentioned.
In case of emergency and for persons who want to take out procession for marriage, funeral etc. within the scheduled area, applications may be made to district magistrate or to the Superintendent of Police, Jiribam District, for permission and they shall not take out any procession until the written permission is obtained from the authorities, it stated.
The order will come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further order, it mentioned.
It also stated that there shall be relaxation of the above prohibitory orders within the jurisdictions of Jiribam Municipal Council and Borobekra Sub-Division from 9 am to 3 pm.
Further, Sr Superintendent of Police, Jiribam, with the help of all the security forces present in the district shall strictly impose night curfew and ensure maintenance of law and order, it added.
The District Magistrate Pherzwal Ashis Das had issued a similar order imposing night curfew in the Pherzwal district.
