In an effort towards achieving fish sustainability in the state, 30,000 fingerlings were released in nine community ponds under Thanga AC as part of the seventh phase of the scheme “Stocking of Fish Fingerlings in Community Ponds of Manipur.”

The initiative, led by Thanga MLA Tongbram Robindro, was carried out by the District Fishery Officer (DFO) of Bishnupur, Rameshwor, and supported by local officials and residents.

The fingerlings were supplied by Progressive Farm Kambongphabi, Thanga, owned by Tongbram Raghu. The scheme has been in effect across the Bishnupur district since July 31, as part of Chief Minister N Biren’s efforts to make Manipur self-sustaining in fish production.

Speaking to the media, DFO Rameshwor stated that similar stocking programmes have been implemented in other constituencies within the district, with further plans to cover remaining areas under Moirang AC.

A proposal for the same has been submitted through the Fishery Department’s director, he informed.
