A 22-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her boyfriend on Sunday night at a brickfield in Sabungkhok Khunou, Yaingangpokpi in Imphal East.
The deceased has been identified as one Ningthoujam Lanthoibi alias Ichal daughter of N Mani of Wangjing Tentha Mathak Leikai presently residing at Heirikhagok Makhong, Bamon Leikai, Imphal East.
Police sources said Lanthoibi was shot by a single barrel shotgun in the head.
The accused Khangembam Ashok, 28, son of Kh Naran of Khurai Ahongei Leikai, Imphal East was arrested by the police. Police also recovered a weapon that is suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime.

On March 6, Lanthoibi reportedly eloped with Ashok and has been staying in the brick farm, which is owned by Ashok, sources said, adding that Ashok is a married man with two children.
Condemning the gruesome killing and demanding justice for late Lanthoibi, a sit-in protest was staged on Monday at Heirikhagok Makhong.
Speaking to the media, N Mani father of the deceased demanded immediate punishment to the accused person. He also sought the support of the people of Manipur in the fight against justice for his late daughter.
