Man remanded in judicial custody for sexual assault on minor

The accused was produced before the court by women police, Imphal East along with a prayer for 15 days judicial custody remand.

Special Judge (POCSO), Imphal East on Friday remanded a 22-year-old youth from Sagolmang into 15-day judicial custody till May 6 on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl on April 4, 2021.

The accused, Thangjam Malemnganba, S/o Kameshor of Tiger Camp Sagolmang surrendered before the police on April 15 evening.

He was produced before the court by women police, Imphal East along with a prayer for 15 days' judicial custody remand.

The IO of the case, through APP, submitted that the elder sister of the victim lodged a complaint to the women police station Imphal East.

As per the complainant, the minor victim was sexually assaulted by the accused on April 4, 2021 at Panchayat's toilet near Tiger Camp community hall at Sagolmang by taking advantage of the innocence of the victim.

Saying that the accused and his parents were at large to escape arrest, the IO maintained the father and mother of the accused were arrested by the police on December 11 but were later released on bail.

The court, on perusal of case record and after hearing the submission of the special PP and legal aid counsel for the accused, remanded the accused to 15 day judicial custody till May 6.
