Man pulls gun at doctor; locals hold protest in Imphal East

The protesters appealed to the authorities concerned to book the alleged culprit and serve appropriate punishment.

The Laimanai Youth Club, Yairipok (LYCY) and Laimanai Meira Paibi on Saturday organised a sit-in protest after a man allegedly pulled a gun on a doctor who was working at PHC Yairipok Yambem under Andro Police station in Imphal East around 10.30 am Friday.

The incident took place when doctor Amom Jotin was carrying out his duties when one Leiphrakpam Khomdon, 58, son of late Papu from Yambem mathak Leikai allegedly pulled a gun and threatened the doctor. Khomdon was allegedly drunk when the incident took place, sources said.

One meira paibi who took part in the protest said that they condemned the act of brandishing a gun on a doctor who is working to save lives. She appealed to the authorities concerned to book the alleged culprit and serve appropriate punishment. She also appealed not to carry out similar acts in the future.

The protesters shouted slogans such as, ‘We condemn the threats using guns on a doctor’, ‘Punish the culprit’ etc.   

It may be mentioned that the accused L Khomdo who allegedly threatened the doctor has been arrested by Andro Police station.
