Man killed in road mishap; wife, daughter hospitalised

A man riding a scooter (TVS Jupiter) was killed in a road mishap with a four-wheeler near Malom Bazar along Tiddim Road under Nambol Police Station at 8 pm on Wednesday.

The victim had been identified as Nambam Bony, 50, son of Gopal of Uripok Panchai Maning. He was riding his scooter along with his wife Lekhabati alias Chaoba, 48, and daughter, Cheriya, 7.

According to sources, Bony and his family were returning after having a meal at his sister’s place at Malom when the car hit them from behind.  His wife and daughter fell from their scooter while Bony, who was still on the scooter, was hit again by the car, it added.

Shortly, the Nambol Police searched for the car but in vain, sources said. However, the driver of the car, Wahengbam Jackson, 22, son of Birmangol from Kakyai Makha Leikai surrendered to Nambol Police Station on Thursday morning.

It further stated that Lekhabati and her daughter Cheriya are undergoing treatment at the Shija Hospital undergoing treatment, and added that Lekhabati is in serious condition.

The mortal remains of Bony had been received by the bereaved family after a post-mortem was conducted at RIMS mortuary, it added.
