Man arrested, arms and ammunition seized in Imphal

A combined team of district commando, Imphal East, along with a column of 16 Assam Rifles have apprehended one active cadre of a proscribed organisation, and arms and ammunition were seized from his possession from Khabam Lamkhai, Imphal on Saturday.

The person has been identified as one Mayengbam Amarjit Singh, 44, son of late M Ibocha Singh of Pangaltabi Chairen Lamkhai, Sugnu, presently staying at Langol Game village, Zone III, Imphal West.

Superintendent of Police, Imphal East M Pradip told the media at his conference hall on Sunday that Amarjit was arrested from Khabam Lamkhai near auto-rickshaw parking at about 5.35 pm when the combined team was conducting frisking and checking in different areas of Mantripukhri-Koirengei area along the National Highway 39 on Saturday.

A scooter (Activa) bearing registration number MN-06SA/3010 and one mobile handset along with a SIM card were seized from his possession at the spot, he added.

On further verification, it was learnt that the arrested person had joined the outfit through one Bhoge of the same outfit in August, 2021, and disclosed that he was working under his command.

He revealed that about three days ago one unknown person sent by Bhoge handed over 4 pistols along with magazines and ammunition and advised him to keep concealed at his house.

The same combined team along with the arrested person went to his house at Langol Game Billage, Zone III. From the residence, one 9 mm Pistol (Glock) marked as '19 AUSTRIA 9 X 19, LLU916 along with magazine, one 9 mm Pistol (SIG SAUER) marked as 'P365, NEWINGTON, NH USA, 66A910916' along with magazine, one .22 Pistol (WALTHER) marked as 'SP22 cal. .22Lr, Carl Walthar Ulm/Do, Made in Germany, SP22 M1', 66A910916' along with magazine, one 9 mm Pistol along with magazine, 33 9mm ammunitions and 10 .22 ammunitions which were kept concealed at the top of a wardrobe were seized from his residence, said the senior police officer.

He said the arms and ammunition were seized at about 6.40 pm of the same day by observing all due formalities.

The arrested person along with the seized items has been handed over to Heingang Police Station for further legal action.
