Tamenglong DC L Angshim Dangshawa conducted an interactive peace meeting at Phaitol village, Tousem subdivision, Tamenglong, on Monday, in an effort to maintain peace and tranquility between different communities amid the prevailing unrest in Manipur.
The meeting was also attended by CO 39 Assam Rifles Colonel Akash, SDO Tousem Paul Nangsha, deputy commandant 5th MR Josiah T Pamei and many other officials.
Various CSO groups like Kuki Inpi (Tamenglong, Noney and Jiribam district), village chiefs association, ATSUM (Tamenglong-Jiribam Zone) and village elders of Phaitol, Lhangnom, Tatbung, T Motbung, Tingchamphai, Maokot, Leisabithol Kuki, Ngamunphai, Old Kaiphundai, Pangkotphai, and Thingtutbung came to participate in the meeting.
The DC appreciated the people of both Kuki and Meitei communities residing along the Tamenglong-Jiribam border for maintaining peace so far.
He appealed to the good citizens of the area to refrain from indulging in violent acts and instead cooperate with the state machinery in bringing normalcy back to the state.
Village elders appraised that they are facing difficulties in availing of basic amenities from nearby towns and requested the District Administration to assist them with relief food material.
After the meeting, he went to meet Jiribam DC and SP and discussed the various challenges faced by affected people along the border.
DC also interacted with the village authorities along NH 37 like Oinamlong, Kaimai Kuki, Kaimai Naga, Nungkao, etc and requested that they maintain peace along the NH.
He appealed to the people to restrain from sharing unverified information, which may escalate the conflict and hamper the ongoing peace process in the state.
