In honour of the contribution made by Maichou Thoukachanpa in preserving and conserving the Meetei-Mayek script, the ‘Kanglei Eyekki Lamyanba Maichou Thoukachanpa gi Mapok Ningshing Thousil Lup’ has decided to unveil his statue at Sayang Kuraomakhong on his 100th Birth Anniversary.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, president of the association Moirangthem Naokhomba said that Maichou Thoukachanpa is one of the pioneers who has made his big contribution in the upliftment of the Meetei-Mayek which is now being studied at the level of master degree.
The Meetei-Mayek containing 27 alphabets, which is currently being used in Manipur, is the hardwork of the Maichou who brought out the Puya “Wakoklon Rhilel Salai Amailon Pukok”, which is based on the linguistic of Meetei-Mayek to public domain, he added.
Stating that the 100th birth anniversary of Maichou Thoukachanpa, which falls on January 22, 2023, will be held in a grand manner at Kuraomakhong in Imphal West, he announced that the association will be felicitating the toppers of Meetei-Mayek in the BOSEM, COHSEM and undergraduate students in the examination held in 2022.
