The State Forest department, in collaboration with Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, organised a massive plantation drive under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in Mother’s Name) at Nongdam Shanglen, Wakha on Sunday.
Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba joined the mass plantation drive in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global campaign, Mission LiFE, stated a release issued by DFO, Central Forest Division.
The event, led by DFO/Central Ganesh aimed to raise awareness about deforestation’s devastating impacts, such as frequent landslides and global warming, and emphasise the importance of conservation, it stated.
It said that Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba inaugurated the plantation drive, stressing the need for collective action to protect the environment. “As responsible citizens, we must care for these saplings like our mothers, nurturing them to maturity,” he said.
The initiative is part of the nationwide efforts to plant 80 crore saplings by September 2024 and 140 crore by March 2025, launched by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, headed by Bhupender Yadav, it mentioned. The event saw active participation from devotees, students, teachers, local clubs, and residents, it added.
