Maharaj Narasingh’s 171th death anniversary: CM Biren urges people to maintain values of heroic leaders

Biren on Sunday addressed the ceremonial function of the 171th death anniversary of Maharaj Narasingh held at Kangla in Imphal.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday said commemoration of brave souls of the state is needed to let the future generations know about their bravery and sacrificial spirits.

Biren was speaking at the ceremonial function of the 171th death anniversary of Maharaj Narasingh held at Kangla in Imphal.

Recalling the sacrifices made by Maharaj Narasingh for the sake of the motherland, Biren appealed to the people of the state to maintain the values of the heroic leaders, martyrs and prominent kings who played major roles in saving Manipur from the British rule.

The programme began with a group song performed by Shree Shree Govinda Ji Jalakeli Pala. As a mark of tribute to the departed souls, guard of honour, gun salute, and a two-minute silence was observed while ‘tarpan’ was organised at Nungjeng Pukhri, Kangla.

Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh; MP Leishemba Sanajaoba; IPR Minister Th Biswajit Singh; Agriculture Minister O Lukhoi Singh and many other high-ranking officials of the state government and MLAs took part in the function. 

Also, speaking on the sidelines of the function, the chief minister said an agreement was reached between the protesting employees of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and the state government and efforts are being made to fulfil their demand.

JNIMS employees under the Teachers Association (TA), the Trained Nurses Association (TNA) and the Association for All Non-Teaching Staffs (AANTS) have been demanding implementation of the 7th Pay Commission.
