The Maha Area Chiefs’ Association (MACA) of Chandel has imposed strict prohibitory orders on the use of chemical and poisonous substances such as bleaching powder, super killer, insecticides, pesticides, etc. and dynamo and explosive for fishing in Chakpi River.
The resolution order by MACA further warned that anyone found fishing using illegal items will be penalised a sum of Rs 10,000 and that a strong action will be taken against them.
The order also appealed to the concerned village chiefs and authority residing at the bank of Chakpi River to take the initiative of their respective jurisdiction regarding the cleanliness drive of Chakpi River and take action against the violators.
Any person found using intoxicants and disturbing/harassing the village will be penalised accordingly by the concerned village authority, MACA stated, adding that if the accused violates the concerned village authority, MACA will take strong action against them.
MACA also said that drinking alcohol and selling of illegal drugs is strictly prohibited in their jurisdiction, adding that all shops within district headquarters bazaar should remain closed on every Sunday exempting the pharmacies.
It also prohibited hunting of wild animals/birds during mating and breeding season.
