The locals of Yumnam Khunou have demanded renaming the ‘Ishikha Police Outpost’ as ‘Yumnam Khunou Police Outpost’, saying the police outpost was established under the jurisdiction of Yumnam Khunou village in Imphal East in 2011.
The villagers also cautioned against blocking the Imphal-Saikul road if the state government fails to comply with their demand soon.
Speaking to the media on behalf of the villagers, president of Gold Star Club, S Indrakumar, said that the outpost was constructed within the territory of Yumnam Khunou, however it was named as ‘Ishika Police Outpost’ after a few years of its establishment.
He elaborated that the outpost is located within the revenue village 2-Yumnam Khunou under c.s dag No. 1264/1535 and its Patta No. is 681/886 and it is owned by the SP, Imphal East.
Stating that the original boundary of Yumnam Khunou Village might be hampered and may lead to loss of the areas of the Village due to the incumbent name of the outpost, he said such may cause conflict between the villagers of Yumnam Khunou and Ishika.
Studying the facts and possible outcome, the president stressed the urgent need to change the name of the outpost to avoid any upcoming complications in regards to the boundary between Ishika and Yumnam Khunou.
Indrakumar also informed that representations have also been submitted to the chief minister and SP, Imphal East in July and October of 2022 respectively, however their grievances are yet to be addressed.
The villagers also said that local MLA, Th Lokeshwor, should be held responsible for any untoward incident arising, if he fails to rename the police station as per the demand at the earliest.
The police outpost was named as Ishika when the MLA himself was a part of the then ruling government, he added.
The press conference was also attended by representatives of Women Empowerment Association; Village Level Federation; Students Club Yumnam Khunou and Women Welfare Association, which are all based in Yumnam Khunou.
