Pukramba Kajao Memorial Trust, Manipur along with representatives of local clubs of Kangmong, Imphal West conducted a cleanliness drive at Pukhramba Kajao Memorial Complex, Kangmong, Imphal West on Sunday.
A release stated that the ‘Sajibu month of the Meitei lunar calendar’ is an important month for the people of the Kangmong village, as it coincides with the emergence of the ancient king Kangba who established the ancient Manipuri kingdom. It recalled that it was in the month of April that the brave soldiers of the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 laid their lives in the fight against British rule.
On Monday, Pukhramba Kajao Memorial Trust along with the public will organise the 131st memorial ceremony for Pukhramba Kajao who laid his life in the fight against British rule, it added.
Meanwhile, to commemorate National Panchayati Raj Day on, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector AR/ IGAR (East) organised a two-day cleanliness drive at Chalwa Village of KPI district, stated a release issued by PIB (Defence Wing) on Sunday.
The day is celebrated to honour the efforts and contributions of various village panchayats in the socio-economic development at the grass-root levels, it stated.
It mentioned that the main aim of the cleanliness drive in Chalwa village was to motivate the local population about the importance of cleanliness and give a push to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The event was organised in close coordination with the village authorities of Chalwa, it stated.
School going children and the locals along with village authorities took an active part in the cleanliness drive alongside their brothers in uniform and took a pledge to continue working together for the development of the area, it further stated.
