As a part of its continuous and committed fight against drugs in the town, Kangpokpi local bodies on Tuesday ousted a man along with his family from Kangpokpi town for selling contraband items.
The culprit has been identified as one Mangkholal Khongsai, son of Ngullen Khongsai, a resident of Ward No 7. His wife has been identified as one Nengpi Khongsai.
It may be recalled that on April 23, 2022, people of Kangpokpi took a firm resolution in its public meeting to make the town completely free from drugs and unanimously declared a "War on Drugs" not only in support of the government's initiative under Chief Minister N Biren Singh but also to save the future Kangpokpi youths from the menacing drugs.
Since then, the Kangpokpi Youth Union and the Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization under the aegis of the Kangpokpi Town Committee have been leading the fight to cause lethal destruction to the drug menace in the town.
Drug seller Mangkholal Khongsai and his family were caught last year for their illegal business and the town committee ordered them to leave the town following which they left the town but re-settled again within a few months submitting that they have stopped their business and would live normally as per the law of the town.
However, the Kangpokpi Youth Union has been keeping a tight vigil on their movement and finally caught a man who disclosed that he had bought the brown sugar from Mangkholal Khongsai at his Ward No.7 residence.
Following the evidence, the Kangpokpi Town Committee directed the Kangpokpi Youth Union and Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization to drive away Mangkholal Khongsai and his family from the town and they [KYU and KWWO] dislodged them on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a thief identified as Haominthang Hangshing, son of Lungkhosei Hangshing of Kangpokpi Ward No 7, who was involved in stealing pet animals like ducks, dogs, gas cylinders, Gospel Missionary Box, etc. was caught by Kangpokpi Youth Union on Tuesday and asked him to leave the town within a week's time.
