The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) on Friday recommended the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur to direct SP and OC of Kakching police station to take appropriate legal action against culprits who are charged for a life attempt on a girl.

The Commission also recommended for ensuring the culprits are booked for proper investigation and that the culprits be asked as to why they should not pay compensation to the victim girl for the injuries caused by them, on or before July 30.

MHRC registered a complaint case under section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, for investigation as the complaint, which was lodged by Itabi Bibi (social worker) from Sora Mamang Leikai, Kakching district, allegedly charged that a man identified as Azad Khan, 57, son of Yaima from Sora Bazar along with his associates made attempt on the life of a girl on July 7. The girl was severely injured and hospitalized.

An FIR was lodged at Kakching PS for appropriate legal action under section 325/357/34 IPC without section 307 IPC, charged the complainant.

The complainant also claimed that police failed to take appropriate legal action and neglected their duties, therefore the culprits are still living scot-free.
