Launching the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, Manipur Textile Minister Nemcha Kipgen hoisted the Tricolour at her residence in Kangpokpi town Saturday morning and called upon the people of her constituency to join the campaign by hoisting the national flag from their homes.

The flag hoisting event was attended by BJP Kangpokpi Mandal president Thanglensei Kipgen, leaders representing various tribes and communities of Kangpokpi AC, Kangpokpi town local bodies, other BJP leaders and karyakartas, etc.

Kipgen said that the government's 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign is a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which commemorates the glorious milestone of India's Independence and it aims to encourage people to hoist the national flag with honour and dignity in their homes from August 13 to 15.

The minister continued that the government has amended the Flag Code of India to allow the Tricolour to be displayed in the open and on individual houses or buildings day and night.

She also recalled that earlier, Indian citizens were not allowed to hoist the National Flag except on selected occasions but this has changed after a decade-long legal battle by industrialist Naveen Jindal culminated in the landmark Supreme Court judgement of January 23, 2004, that declared that the right to fly the National Flag freely with respect and dignity is a fundamental right of an Indian citizen within the meaning of Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India.

While appealing to the people of Kangpokpi to hoist the Indian tricolour in their respective homes with pride and dignity, Minister Nemcha Kipgen suggested to the people the proper ways to display the tricolour in their homes.

Waving and flattering the tricolour, the Minister led a short rally towards Brig. M. Thomas Ground where a people's circle was made holding the tricolour.
