Tamenglong assembly constituency MLA Janghemlung Panmei on Monday said it is a matter of pride that the Zeliangrong community has a Naga freedom fighter from its tribe which has beautiful culture and tradition that must be preserved.
Panmei was speaking as chief guest at the observance of the 91st Haipou Jadonang death anniversary at the multi-purpose hall, Tamenglong HQ. Traditional folk songs and cultural dance performances were presented at the programme.
The programme was organised by Rani Gaidinliu and Haipou Jadonang Memorial Committee, Tamenglong in collaboration with the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur and the Rongmei Naga Luh Phuam Manipur.
ADC Tamenglong chief executive officer Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur president Ramkung attended as guest of honour and president of the function respectively.
Tamenglong College Professor (History) Dr Kinthuijinang Marenmei spoke as a resource person and narrated the life history of Naga freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang.
Immanuel Baptist Church Men Society performed ‘hohoing’ (a form of ululation) and enthralled the gathering.
Speaking at the occasion, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, Tamenglong Luangrian advisor and retired Zonal Education officer Tamenglong Kadi Kamei urged all the participants to fight for their rights and love the nation.
In another programme, the Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu Death Anniversary Committee under the aegis of Zeliangrong Union Tamenglong zone observed the day at Jadonang Park Tamenglong district headquarters early morning.
Rich floral homage was paid to Haipou Jadonang by the leaders of Zeliangrong Union Tamenglong zone and Zeliangrong women Union Tamenglong.
Phalong youth organization shouted 'hoihoing' as a mark of honour and victory of Naga freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang.
Zeliangrong Union Assam Manipur and Nagaland vice president Namdinang Daimai and Zeliangrong Union Assam Manipur and Nagaland former president and town centre church senior pastor Dr N Palmei spoke on the occasion.
At Noney district, the 91st Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was observed at his birth place, Puiluanh (Kambiron). The programme was organised by Haipou Jadonang Memorial Trust.
A programme was also held at Khoupum Sub-Divisional headquarters organised by the Khoupum Area Village Authority Council (KAVAC) with chairman, HAC D Gangmei as the chief guest.
D Gangmei unveiled the statue of Haipou Jadonang at Guangpungbut near Khoupum SDO's office. Various cultural programmes, including Haipou Jadonang 's Parade were performed by the artistes.
