The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has called on the state government to launch “War against Drugs Lords” instead of “War on Drugs”, stating that all the anonymous drug lords are walking scot free while only the transporters are facing the wrath of law.

Citing the recent Pallel drug haul case, MPCC spokesperson N Bupenda, while speaking to the media at Congress Bhawan in Imphal, said, “We are more interested in nabbing the kingpin of the drugs as the arrested CDO personnel are not in a position to fund the multi-crores drug business”.

Reacting to the announcement of the termination of the CDO personnel from their service by the chief minister, he questioned, “Why is there a necessity of a sudden termination order? How can they be terminated without giving the opportunity of being heard?”

Considering the technical and legal aspects, those CDO personnel will easily revoke their termination as due procedures of court are not followed, he added.

He also alleged that investigation of the case involving Manipur police personnel by Manipur police personnel itself will not be a fair investigation.

Considering the fact, Bupenda pointed out that enhancing CBI to take over the Pallel drug haul case will be the only hope for justice and nab the drug lords who funded the illicit business.

Hitting back at CM N Biren for initiating FIR against MPCC president K Meghachandra, who is also an MLA for demanding CBI inquiry against the Pallel drug haul case, he said using state functionaries to suppress the voice of the opposition clearly shows that democracy has been compromised in Manipur.

“It shows that Biren is the weakest CM in the history of Manipur and the present days is the darkest era of democracy in the history of Manipur,” he lamented.

Recalling the arbitrary arrest of various journalists, academicians, social activists and youths who spoke against the government, he alleged that the BJP government had also compromised the Rights to Freedom of Speech and Expression and Freedom of Movement.

The Congress party, with the support of the general public, will revolve against the dictatorial rule of the BJP government and restore democracy in Manipur, he announced.
