Kut Fest 2020: Governor Najma Heptulla, CM Biren greet people

The state leaders called for peace, harmony and unity among the diverse communities of the state on the occasion.

Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and cabinet ministers have extended their greetings to the people of Manipur, particularly the Chin-Kuki-Mizo community on the eve of Kut festival. They called for peace, harmony and unity among the diverse communities of the state.

“I am hopeful that the festival will spread the message of peace, love, communal harmony, friendship and brotherhood among the different communities in the North East especially in Manipur. I wish a happy Kut to all the people of Manipur,” the governor said in her message.

Kut is celebrated as a thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest and it is one of the most important festivals not only of Kuki-Chin-Mizo groups but the entire state as well and apart from its cultural significance, the festival has also become an important tourist attraction, the message stated.

The chief minister expressed hope that the celebration of the festival in its true spirit will help strengthen sense of unity and bring lasting peace and prosperity among the diverse ethnic groups inhabiting the state.

Kut, a post harvest festival celebrated annually, symbolises compassion and gratefulness and also signifies harmonious coexistence, brotherhood, cooperation, integrity and understanding among different communities of the state, the chief minister stated.

Manipur Speaker Y Khemchand Singh wished that the festival usher forth abundance and happiness in the state with the coming of the festival. IPR Minister Th Biswajit also said that Kut symbolise peace, harmony and unity transcending the barriers of caste, creed or religion.

Stating that the spirit of Kut is all about sharing, understanding, harmonious co-existence, cooperation and merriment, the IPR minister wished for the festival to embrace one and all to strengthen the social fabric more than ever and bring prosperity to all the communities in the state.
