Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) headquarters on Wednesday strongly condemned the Kuki militants’ continuous threat to the life of LT Memory, wife of late LT Rengchupchung, the chief of Kharam Thadoi, Aimol Naga village under Kangchup Geljang Sub-Division Kangpokpi district Manipur.
LT Memory was once kidnapped in the month of June 2024 but released safely with the intervention of Naga organisations and individuals, stated a release.
Around 40-45 armed Kuki militants entered her village again on September 1 and looked for her but she escaped and was later rescued by her friends, it said. In fact, the Kharam Thadoi is a minority Naga village of Aimol tribe and the village is caught in the cross firing of the Meitei-Kuki conflict, it said. The whole village and the public are gripped with fear and could not freely work in the field and surrounding village area for livelihood, it mentioned.
The MNYO had warned the armed Kuki militants to cease their interference in the internal affairs of Kharam Thadoi, a Naga village, it stated.
Reports indicate that Kuki militants, dressed in full combat camouflage, entered Kharam Thadoi village and stayed longer than anticipated, holding meetings within the village posing a serious threat to the safety and well-being of the villagers, as it may be misinterpreted by other warring communities that the attack on Kadangband Meitei locality originated from the Kharam Thadoi area, it stated.
It also condemned armed Kuki militants for excessive use of drones for aerial bombing against the innocent public in Koutruk and Kadangband area. Either of the warring communities should not use the minority Naga Villages as a launching pad against its other when Nagas are not party to current conflict Meitei-Kuki, it added.
The repeated attempts by Kukis to divide the minority Aimol Naga village of Kharam Thadoi and drag them into conflict are a direct affront to the dignity and integrity of all Naga people and their organisations, it mentioned.
The Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim, Office of the Makuilongdi Zeliangrong Region, stated that the chief of Kharam Thadoi cannot visit Kangpokpi for MGNREGS activities due to threats from armed Kuki militants. Any harm to her or her family will hold both the Kuki militants and rival T Lunkhokam Kom/Khongsai responsible, it added.
MNYO also condemned the assaults on Golmei Pouthoi of Namthanlong Kabui Rongmei village, a school bus driver, by armed miscreants on Monday over a minor issue near ICAR Gate, Lamphel. It further urged the Manipur government to take serious action against these unruly elements and ensure safety for all residents in Imphal and surrounding areas.
The organisation also warned both Kuki militants and Meitei miscreants to refrain from targeting innocent Naga villagers and civilians amid the ongoing conflict.
