The Van Mahotsav 2024 was observed at Kuki Inpi Secretariat in Churachandpur district with members of Kuki Inpi, Kuki Inpi Youth Affairs, and three representatives from the District Forest department on Wednesday.
The event was led by Breeze Kimneithem, followed by a speech from Range Officer, Boimang, District Forest department, Churachandpur.
The Kuki Inpi Youth Affairs team and the District Forest Department representatives moved to K Lhangnem to witness and participate in the plantation of tree saplings. The Youth Affairs team continued planting saplings at other villages, including K Lhangnem, S Toljang, and S Gamnomjang, while plantation activities were simultaneously carried out at other designated spots.
The types of saplings planted include Bauhinia, Gulmohar, Bokul, Leihau ,Lemon, Palm etc. along with 13 varieties in all with more than 1,000 saplings planted at 32 villages.
The Kuki Inpi Youth Affairs extend their gratitude to the District Forest department for providing the saplings, the Koitelui Area Youth Association (KAYA), for their cooperation and mobilization efforts and the village leaders and youth clubs from the aforementioned villages for their active participation.
The Kuki Inpi Youth Affairs initiated activities of the tree plantation drive to foster environmental awareness and stewardship among the youth and the community with the goal to combat deforestation, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to a healthier environment and ecosystem.
The initiative also aims to instill a sense of responsibility and connection to nature to the younger generation, ensuring a sustainable future.
