Maram Thangal Council (MTC) has reached a settlement with Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi (KIK), Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA) and Kuki Students’ Organisation Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) over the gun firing incident against the Regional official of NSCN, GPRN by one individual self-proclaimed KNF cadre at Kangpokpi on September 27.
The settlement agreement was executed on Monday at Senapati, stated a release. It was signed between MTC representing the victim’s party and KIK, SAHILCA and KSO-SH representing the accused namely 38-year-old-Thanglenmang Kipgen, it mentioned.
It said that the accused family and Kuki CSOs surrendered the weapon with the regional authority, tendered an apology and asked for forgiveness before the members present on the behalf of the accused for the crime he had committed. Following which, the victim’s party accepted the apology and settled the matter in accordance with the customary laws.
It stated that both the parties have mutually agreed to settle the case as per the Naga customary law on four terms and conditions including that the accused must duly initiate customary ritual to proceed for final settlement at Ecological Park, Mayangkhang Village on October 7.
It also said that the KUKI CSOs must ensure that befitting punishment shall be leveled against the accused for the crime he has committed and intimating the Nagas allegedly in the name of KNF. It also added that the accused party must produce an action taken report on October 7.
It mentioned that the accused party must take moral responsibility and initiate necessary steps to contain and stop all kinds of intimidation, harassment and unabated extortion/illegal taxation in the entire Naga areas by the Kuki Militants. It also added that they must ensure that, henceforth, the Kuki militants must stop loitering along the National Highways and around Naga villages with arms and camouflage uniforms.
The agreement was signed between MTC President, A John, TU President YK Kaping, MU President, MS Jerome and KIK President, Jamsei Haokip, SAHILCA Vice President, Seilet Haokip and KSO-SH President, Minthang Kipgen with W/C-UNC Convenor, Samson Remei and KIK Vice President, Thangmilen Kipgen as witnesses.
