Kuki CSOs have served two more conditions besides the rumoured demand of Mark T Haokip’s release for the exchange with two Meitei youths abducted and taken hostage by Kuki militants in Gampiphai under the Sapermeina Police Station in Kangpokpi district.
Manipur Police DGP Rajiv Singh met with Kuki CSOs in Kangpokpi to discuss the release of Thoithoi and Thoithoiba. Mao assembly constituency MLA Losii Dikho and the DGP again met with Kuki CSO leaders on Tuesday at the COTU office in Kangpokpi.
Mention may be made that, the state DGP Rajiv Singh had gone and met with the Kuki CSOs on Monday and were expecting release of the two youths last night following assurances.
However, failure to release the two youths forced the DGP to once again visit Kangpokpi on Tuesday.
The Kuki CSOs have demanded the transfer of all Kuki inmates from Sajiwa Central Jail to Churachandpur Jail, as well as the establishment of a police station at Island Village in Kangpokpi Revenue District near Itham Moirangpurel in Imphal East district.
They have also assured that the two hostages will be released if their demands are met. Given this situation, it seems unlikely that Thoithoi and Thoithoiba will be released on Tuesday night.
Notably, the Island village which the Kuki CSOs demanded to establish a police station is situated 4 km south of Maphou Dam Police Station in Imphal East.
The victims, Thokchom Thoithoiba and Oinam Thoithoi, were accompanying Ningombam Johnson to an SSC GD recruitment at 9-Sector Assam Rifles in Nongchup Keithelmanbi.
They mistakenly navigated to Awang Keithelmanbi while using Google Maps which led to their abduction on September 27 by Kuki Militants.
Later that night, Ningombam Johnson, a recruitment candidate, was handed to Imphal Police Station by Assam Rifles.
