Kuki Students Organisation has suspended its proposed 48-hour statewide shutdown which was scheduled to begin from March 26.
The decision was taken on Thursday after representatives of the state government requested the KSO to put on hold its agitation until the next cabinet meeting, to be held within a short period of time in which the demands of KSO will be tabled for discussion.
A release by KSO stated that the state government representatives and KSO had a meeting at the office of Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Vungjagin Valte wherein the KSO reiterated its standpoint that it will never accept any decision to delete ‘Any Kuki Tribe’ from the scheduled tribe list of Manipur.
The KSO urged the government to uphold and respect the status of Any Kuki Tribe or any other tribe as recognised in the Constitution of India and the state government acknowledged the genuineness of KSO’s demand, it stated.
Further it stated that the KSO has resolved to resort to all kinds of agitation if the government fails to consider KSO demand and decides to delete Any Kuki Tribes.
Kuki Students' Organisation general headquarters on Tuesday announced that a two-day total shutdown will be imposed in the state mainly in all Kuki dominated areas from March 26, in protest against the Government's decision' to delete Any Kuki Tribe (AKT) from the list of recognised Scheduled Tribes in its cabinet meeting on October 19, 2018 and failure to retract its decision despite appeals to halt further process.
