Stating the damages caused by recent flood-like situation in Manipur, Kangleipak Progressive Farmers Association (KPFaA) has demanded a sustainable solution for farmers’ community to address natural calamities.
In a release issued on Tuesday, the KPFaA on Tuesday stated that with the onset of monsoon early in the state, flood-like situation was encountered for past days. The incident had damaged the crops of the farming communities and the state government should take measures to address such eventualities by framing sustainable and farmers’ friendly policies, it stated.
Farmers are playing a crucial role to make Manipur self-reliant without taking much support from anybody. As such, to provide help and support in such eventuality is much needed, it added.
The release said that a flood-like situation is faced every year for the past few years as an impact of massive deforestation in catchment and hill areas and called on the state government to give special attention in preservation of forest effectively.
